Net Health Partners with KCI to Provide V.A.C.® Therapy System Integration

In April 2010, Net Health Systems, Inc. announced the release of new functionality in the WoundExpert software enabling physicians to pre-populate V.A.C.® Therapy System Authorization Forms, electronically sign, and transmit via a secure link directly to KCI. The inclusion of this functionality demonstrates another step forward in Net Health’s continuing commitment to provide new efficiencies, improve ease of use, and reduce errors in wound care.

"Our clients manually process thousands of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy orders and this solution simplifies this procedure, providing significant time savings while reducing errors," said Patrick Colletti, President of Net Health. "This partnership advances our goal of integrating the manual and disparate documentation and reporting functions of a wound care clinic into a streamlined workflow."

The inclusion of V.A.C.® Therapy System ordering through WoundExpert provides:

  • Seamless creation of the KCI V.A.C.® Therapy System Order Form, pre-populated with WoundExpert data
  • Automatic error checking for form compliance
  • Inclusion of electronic signatures on the KCI V.A.C.® Therapy System Order Form
  • Direct transmission for approval from WoundExpert to KCI
  • Integration with WoundExpert’s electronic documentation

"The partnership is a great example of how we are simplifying and improving the V.A.C.® Therapy System process," said Mike DelVacchio, Senior Vice President, U.S. & Latin America Sales & Marketing, Active Healing Solutions™. "WoundExpert reduces training requirements and order entry time while allowing V.A.C.® Therapy System Prescription and authorization in one simple step."

Since the V.A.C.® Therapy System Order Functionality within WoundExpert was introduced hundreds of WoundExpert users have taken advantage of this simple and efficient way to place their orders. This new module is free of charge and available to all WoundExpert users.

Activating the KCI module is easy; users with facility administration access (such as a PD) simply need to access the opt-in screen located under the Help menu in WoundExpert. In order to take complete advantage of the V.A.C.® Therapy System Order Functionality it is recommended that the Electronic Signatures feature be activated at your facility. This will allow orders to be sent directly to KCI via a secure link. Once the KCI module has been activated our Client Service team will contact you and assist in activating and quickly configuring electronic signatures for you.

If your facility prefers to not utilize electronic signatures, the KCI module can still prove beneficial in increasing the efficiency of processing your V.A.C.® Therapy System Orders. The order form will pre-populate with WoundExpert data , eliminating the extra time required to manually complete a paper form. The online form can simply be printed and faxed to KCI, where it will be processed just like the paper form you already use.

For further information or assistance enabling the WoundExpert KCI Module please contact our Client Services team <email link> or call 800.411.6281, Option 2.

Did You Know

by Sheila Cougras RN, BSN, CWCN , Director of Quality

In the June 2010 issue of Today’s Wound Clinic, Kathleen Schaum’s article “Correct Orders and Documentation Determine Medicare Coverage and Payment for Negative Pressure Wound Therapy” recommends that accurate physician orders and clinical documentation be included within the medical record to determine coverage by LCD policies for NPWT. She indicates that two essentials of documentation must be recorded:

  • Medical Necessity must be justified and documented
  • Physician order must be dated and signed prior to NPWT application
  • WoundExpert’s KCI V.A.C.® Therapy System Insurance Authorization supports completion of the recommended clinical documentation requirements within the patient’s medical record. The following information will populate from the clinical documentation prior to submission to KCI:

    Medical Necessity

  • Co-morbid conditions
  • Wound type and anatomical location
  • Wound assessment
  • Debridement type and date of procedure
  • Previous treatment modalities
  • Wound age and history
  • Medical Necessity

  • Prescribing physician order and start date of NPWT therapy
  • Goal at the completion of wound vac therapy
  • For further information or assistance enabling the WoundExpert KCI Module please contact our Client Services team <email link> or call 800.411.6281, Option 2.
